About the Association

The RTP Owners and Tenants Association was established by Research Triangle Foundation of NC (the Foundation), stewards of Research Triangle Park (RTP), to bring together companies that own or lease land within RTP. Through regular meetings, members discuss business matters, share insights and contribute to a thriving community. Since RTP’s founding in 1959, the association has played an essential role in maintaining the Park's success and dynamic environment, ensuring it remains a globally recognized hub for research and technology.

Committees

The Owners and Tenants Association supports and maintains two committees that collaborate to sustain the vitality of Research Triangle Park for its workforce. Please contact Blake Kane at kane@rtp.org for more information.

Security

The Security Committee, comprised of facilities and security managers from RTP companies and local first responders, meets quarterly and occasionally holds special sessions on specific topics. Its mission is to connect RTP security professionals with local law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel, to enhance security, emergency response times and strengthen operational resiliency in RTP. The committee ensures all members remain informed about criminal activity and emergency preparedness in RTP.

Sustainability

The Sustainability Committee is dedicated to advancing environmental initiatives within Research Triangle Park (RTP), including the apiaries maintained by Bee Downtown and the bluebird boxes across RTP’s trails and campuses. By organizing events such as e-recycling drives and Bike-to-Work Day, the committee actively engages the community and promotes eco-friendly practices. Additionally, it plays a key role in Park-wide sustainability efforts, ensuring that sustainability remains a core focus in all developments. Through these efforts, the committee identifies and supports programs that foster a culture of environmental responsibility and works towards creating a greener, more eco-conscious work environment for everyone in RTP.

Land Use Regulations and Approvals

Research Triangle Park (RTP) is currently undergoing a significant long-range planning effort known as RTP 3.0, which includes updates to the Park's covenants and zoning regulations. Until new zoning goes into effect in both Durham and Wake counties, all development in RTP must adhere to the zoning regulations in effect as of January 31, 2025. This requirement is enforced through RTP’s land covenants and RTP’s Board of Design. For questions about development in RTP please contact planning@rtp.org.
