Courageous Conversation – Nov. 2019
Join Us for a Courageous Conversation on LGBTQIA + Inclusivity
Raleigh Chamber is excited to offer another session of its Courageous Conversation series. You will learn about how your company can be a catalyst for change to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion are priorities. NC State University’s GLBT Center and Poole College of Management will lead this important discussion.
This workshop will inform and educate the audience on LGBTQ + terminology and best practices through a presentation-style format. Speakers will be Jonathan McCorey, director of the NC State University GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender) Center, and Tayah Lin-Butler, director of diversity and inclusion for the NC State University Poole College of Management.
In June 2018, Forbes magazine reported that approximately 46% of LGBTQIA + employees have not disclosed their identity in professional workspaces because of discrimination, mistreatment, and overall lack of an inclusive culture. The transgender bathroom debate that sparked controversy within the last few years opened up the national conversation about transgender rights in the workplace. Companies must now consider how they can be more inclusive of the entire spectrum of the LGBTQ community including transgendered individuals and those who are gender non-conforming.
This conversation will enable participants to identify, process, challenge, and grow their support of LGBTQIA+ topics in the workplace. Through discussion and interactive exercises, the workshop will increase awareness about LGBTQIA+ terminology, experiences, resources, and practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion to enrich our business community.
