
Sergio Tovar joined the Research Triangle Foundation as Digital Media Manager in June 2025. He oversees the development and execution of digital marketing and social media content campaigns to build awareness of Research Triangle Park brands— including Hub RTP, Boxyard RTP and Frontier RTP.
Sergio has more than a decade of experience in digital marketing, having led social media and recruitment content strategy during his eight years at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment. As co-founder of Breakaway Social, he also consulted with Triangle and national companies to implement social media, digital and influencer marketing to boost brand awareness.
A recovering journalist, Sergio also spent seven years as a reporter and online producer at The Charlotte Observer. Sergio, a proud alum of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, lives in Apex with his wife, two sons and their dog.
