RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (July 15, 2025) — A new chapter begins for Horseshoe at Hub RTP with the grand opening of Nanny Goat, a boutique bodega founded by James Beard Award-nominated Chef Preeti Waas and her daughter, Amy Waas. As the first tenant to open at the award-winning mixed-use destination—recognized as Best Development Project at the 26th Annual Triangle CREW Champion Awards—Nanny Goat marks a significant milestone in Horseshoe’s evolution, establishing a dynamic retail presence that welcomes the Research Triangle Park (RTP) community to experience the property.

Inspired by flavors from around the world with a focus on North Carolina makers, Nanny Goat brings a unique market experience to RTP, offering chef-prepared meals, local artisan goods, fresh produce, baked items, coffee, beer, wine, gifts and essentials — all designed for the everyday needs of employees, visitors and neighbors.

“Our boutique bodega is centered around culture, connection and convenience within Hub RTP,” said Preeti Waas. “We’re proud to support small businesses by giving them a space to showcase, create and sell their goods.”

The name Nanny Goat honors the nurturing female goat that watches over the herd and also draws inspiration from Philadelphia’s 19th-century Nanny Goat Market, which served as a gathering place for immigrants seeking community. In keeping with that spirit, Waas is opening her commissary kitchen, co-located within her Durham, N.C., restaurant Cheeni, to food entrepreneurs in need of space to launch or grow their businesses. Waas plans to expand the program after opening a second Cheeni location next door to Nanny Goat.

“This space will be an ecosystem to complete the entrepreneurial circle,” said Chef Waas. “Some makers have a product but nowhere to sell; others have a retail avenue but lack consistent access to a certified kitchen. Nanny Goat closes that gap.”

A bountiful produce cart serves as the bodega’s centerpiece, showcasing fresh fruit, flowers, bread and jams. The products and featured artisans will rotate to maintain the model as an incubator for local food entrepreneurs.

In addition, guests will find specialty items alongside everyday provisions, ranging from imported butter, cheeses and pasta to essentials like first aid supplies, sunscreen and even swim diapers for visitors enjoying the Horseshoe courtyard and Hub RTP splash pad.

“Nanny Goat is a true labor of love for my mum and me,” said Amy Waas. “It means everything to open our doors and share this space with our community and fellow artisans at Hub RTP.”

Nanny Goat’s operating hours are Monday–Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It also offers gift cards, custom gift baskets, and a gift concierge service. Complimentary parking is located within steps of the Nanny Goat storefront, including street parking and a more than 1,000-space parking deck directly across the street.

Located at 3151 Elion Drive in Durham, N.C., Horseshoe at Hub RTP will soon welcome retailers Drift Coffee & Kitchen, Prime STQ, and Di Fara Pizza Tavern, and Genesys expects to move into its 5th floor office space later this year.

“Nanny Goat’s opening is a landmark moment for Horseshoe and all of RTP,” said Carolyn Coia, vice president of real estate, Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina. “It brings life and purpose to the space by championing other small businesses, artisans and entrepreneurs while offering a much-needed resource for guests, residents and employees in RTP.”
