We, at the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina, send our condolences and support for the UNC-Chapel Hill community in response to the violence that occurred on its campus yesterday.
An academic community seeking to improve the well-being of the world should be immune from such acts. The University of North Carolina is a fundamental partner of Research Triangle Park, and we share a familial bond that has linked us together for nearly 65 years.
Our sorrow extends to all faculty, staff and students impacted by yesterday’s tragedy, especially the family, loved ones and colleagues of Dr. Zijie Yan. We stand in solidarity with Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz, his Chief of Staff Chris McClure and the entire UNC leadership team as they guide, unite and strengthen the Tar Heel community during this time of grief.
