Last fall, RTP’s Chief Operating Officer, Mason Ailstock, was awarded a 2016 Eisenhower Fellowship. Each Eisenhower Fellowship consists of 5-7 weeks of travel to meet with some of the leading thinkers in the areas of government, industry, academia, art, and the non-profit sector.

As part of his Fellowship, Mason will be making two trips this year—one to Sweden and one to Saudi Arabia— to study research parks. Now, the time for his Sweden trip has come, and he’s heading there this week! There is a lot that Mason hopes to gain from this experience:

“I will be exploring multi-disciplinary research parks as destinations for innovation driven by place-based design and the convergence of science, technology, arts, and the humanities. After 56 years, RTP has reached a critical point in its development that calls for a re-imagination of what the future holds. Understanding how other parts of the world are planning research parks that are inclusive to both education and business will be critical when figuring out how to successfully move RTP forward.”

We welcome you to come along for the ride! Mason will be posting photos, videos, and thoughts on his journey while he is abroad. You can follow along at www.masonailstock.com.
