RTP Announces Expansion of The Frontier
Opened in 2015, the open innovation concept has welcomed more than 100,000 people to the unique co-working and event space. Private offices are occupied, and community interest is driving growth.

The Research Triangle Park is excited to announce that The Frontier, RTP’s open innovation community, is expanding. After the success of its first 18 months, The Frontier is now offering additional opportunities for start-up, small, and medium-sized companies to participate in the Park’s revitalization. Since opening in January 2015, The Frontier has seen more than 100,000 visitors, and is the first completed project in RTP’s Park Center development.

Today, 45 companies are located at The Frontier. Ranging in size from one employee to 75, each is able to take advantage of The Frontier’s collaborative environment, programming, onsite restaurant – The Farmery – and the many meeting and event spaces located across the building’s five floors. As part of the announced expansion, new companies will be afforded the same access to these amenities, as well as access to new areas and buildings that will be incorporated into The Frontier campus.

“In January of 2015 we started The Frontier as somewhat of an experiment,” RTP CEO Bob Geolas says. “We expected there was demand in RTP for a convening space where the community could gather, collaborate and work on ideas and inventions. Over the past 18 months, the demand for this type of space has proven to be correct, so much so, we are  expanding the concept to accommodate a larger community.”

Designed to meet the needs of companies in various stages of growth, The Frontier’s expansion includes the build out of additional space in its current location at 800 Park Offices Drive, as well as the renovation and build out of larger office spaces in the adjacent 600 and 700 Park Offices Drive buildings. These new opportunities are tiered in order to best meet the needs of companies that have already expressed interest in moving to The Frontier.

There are two larger office spaces remaining within the active Frontier community in Building 800. These spaces are located on the 2nd and 4th floors – the 2nd floor offers 15,000 sq. ft. and the 4th floor has 3,000 sq. ft. These spaces offer many layout and design possibilities and can be customized to fit the organization’s needs.

New Private, Start-up Offices at The Frontier, Building 800, Now Leasing
To accommodate the demand for start-up and small businesses, we’re knocking down walls and opening up the last remaining small office spaces within The Frontier’s 800 Building. On the 3rd floor, we will be building 34 additional private offices that are ideal for companies with one to five employees. These affordable start-up spaces will be similar to the existing private offices located on The Frontier’s 3rd Floor that are fully leased.

Mid-sized to Large Office Space at The Frontier, Building 600, Now Leasing For January 2017
Adjacent to the original Frontier space at 800 Park Offices Drive, Building 600 provides new opportunities for companies looking for 20,000 sq. ft. or more. Growing companies will have the opportunity to shape this space into their ideal environment, by collaborating with RTP leadership on the design. This opportunity provides private, secure office space for 50 to 500 employees within the collaborative community environment of The Frontier campus.

Geolas says, “Just two years ago, an expanding post-incubator company or seed-funded small business had few options for plugging into the RTP community. Now, with the expansion of The Frontier, we have a hub, that is accessible to all and is primed to incubate and retain businesses throughout their growth cycle.”
