Who knew that one month could go by so fast? It feels like only yesterday I came in as the new Knowledge Management Lead on the previous AmeriCorps VISTAs, Chichi and Jen’s, last day. My first few days were a whirlwind of me basically pretending like I knew what I was doing. When Chichi was explaining my new role to me I nodded and acted like I understood but internally I was more like, “What on earth have I gotten myself into?” Well one month later, I am proud to say I actually know what I’m doing and feeling pretty accomplished!

Let me introduce myself. I’m Christine Lee: a Greensboro native, dog lover, and food enthusiast. I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2015 with a B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Business. Between graduation and starting my VISTA year with STEM in the Park, I worked at a preschool/after school care center with children ages 2-13 years old. After two years, I decided to say “goodbye” to arts and crafts and “hello” to STEM. Over the year, I hope to learn a lot in the realm of professional development, and I am super excited to continue working in education. With hopes of going to graduate school next year to pursue a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration, I want to come away from this year with experience that I could bring to a career at a university. Having the opportunity to work with major STEM companies, fellow non-profit organizations, and K-12 schools will provide me with a wide range of experiences in networking, outreach, and communication that will be invaluable in my future professional endeavors.

Sarah Windsor (STEM in the Park Program Manager) and the rest of the RTF staff have been nothing but incredibly welcoming and supportive, and it has made my transition here that much easier. With 11 more months to go, I am eager to continue working hard to bring STEM opportunities to under-served students and make the STEM field more accessible and diverse in the future!
