Cities face building pressure to become 'smart' in the face of increasing urbanization, expectations of sustainability and public services, and concerns about climate resilience. In response, many are deploying innovative new technologies that rely on sensors, AI, IoT, and beyond to improve transportation, public safety, energy infrastructure, environmental management, and more.
But cities face a major hurdle in the transition to 'smart' cities: funding large-scale upgrades to infrastructure is frequently cost-prohibitive, and there are limited options for traditional financing models. Successful communities are navigating this challenge creatively - but how? What alternative resources are available to innovative cities? What new models and partnerships are being developed to overcome these financial barriers in North Carolina and beyond?
Hear from industry experts and municipal leaders on the finance mechanisms affecting smart city growth. Our panel will discuss the challenges facing communities, how cities are navigating funding hurdles, and what trends they foresee.
Each panelist will provide a brief presentation highlighting their area of expertise, followed by a panel discussion of the topic and an audience Q&A.
