The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the UNC School of Law are excited to announce the first annual UNC iNClusive STEM Innovation Pitch Summit on October 11, 2018 at the UNC Chapel Hill Rizzo Center (free parking is provided).
Minorities are nearly 40 times less likely to receive angel and/or "family & friends" funding for their business than their majority counterparts. According to ProjectDiane 2018, less than 40 black women have ever raised over 1 million dollars in startup funds. Things have improved within the last five years however there is still a need to provide an inclusive entrepreneurship by ecosystem that levels the playing field.
At UNC, we believe that everyone deserves a fair and equitable opportunity to pursue the American dream. We are excited to share our experienced STEM entrepreneurial ecosystem with promising scientists and entrepreneurs who may not have had the exposure, access to funding, and networking opportunities necessary to make their STEM innovations viable and impactful products to improve the lives of humankind.
Throughout this historic one-day event, minority STEMpreneurs will be presenting in each of the four STEM arenas (Life Sciences, Human Health, Consumer and Technology and Engineering, Environment and Education), showcasing their businesses through various roundtables and receiving same-day feedback and coaching. A selected group of STEMprenuers will pitch their business and innovations to a diverse panel of Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists for an opportunity to receive a capital investment.
Light breakfast and lunch provided. Hors d'oeuvres reception to follow.
