Durham, NC- Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC) will host its fourth annual Take Back the Night march, rally and survivor speak-out from 6pm to 9pm on April 25, 2018. The public is invited, and admission is free. The event is being held in collaboration with North Carolina Central University and will start at the Alfonso Elder Student Union located at 1801 Fayetteville Street on their campus in Durham.

This event, in its fourth year, will play host to a survivor speak out. Community leaders along with law enforcement will address the rally attendees. The traditional “march” around the community and campus will begin at 8:00pm. Take Back the Night is a community-wide protest against sexual assault and violence. Since 1975, “Take Back the Night” has grown into an international movement, joining universities, communities and organizations together to take back the voices that sexual violence has claimed. The theme selected by DCRC for this year’s event is #WETOO. As a community, #WETOO stand in solidarity with the many victims/survivors of sexual violence. #WETOO will support them in their healing, locating resources and create awareness.

Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC) is Durham’s sole provider of support and shelter for those in need of help in the aftermath of Domestic or Sexual Violence. April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In conjunction with that, DCRC seeks to end all forms of sexual violence, while creating safe communities and healthy relationships through awareness, activism and advocacy with a series of events throughout the month. Every 98 seconds someone is sexually assaulted in the US. An estimated one in every three women is the victim of interpersonal violence and/or abuse.

Please support DCRC in our community as we continue to strive towards a violence-free community by covering this event. #WETOO can end violence in our community—together.
