Open Walls is a program organized by The Frontier and Triangle ArtWorks, where Triangle-based art galleries, guilds, collectives and organizations are provided access to wall space in the Frontier for display of art work for sale. The intended effects are two-fold: 1) connect artists and patrons in order to increase the amount of art sales in the region  2) let it be known that The Frontier is a place where creative and artistic thinking is not only encouraged but expected – we want people to feel creativity oozing through The Frontier when they come here for a meeting or event or simply to work.

We are limiting the application for the Open Walls program to only groups displaying art (arts organizations, collectives, galleries and guilds) rather than individuals. To be eligible the groups must commit to changing out the art every four months for one calendar year. The applications will be examined on a rolling basis and at the end of the one year term there is an option to reapply.

The Open Walls program will be available for viewing during The Frontier’s hours of operation. The Frontier is generally opened Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. We also open our doors in the evening for meetings and special events. If there is a sale, we present two options: 1) the piece of art can be removed and given to the patron and immediately replaced with another piece or 2) the piece can remain hung until the art is switched out at the conclusion of four months. The Frontier will take 0% commission on works sold. We see this as a barter – the artists are lending us work to beautify our space and make people feel inspired and in return we are foregoing the standard commission applied. Win-win!

The reason we are limiting this program to groups only right now is we want to ensure the caliber of the curation and hanging. We can envision a single artist becoming quickly overwhelmed by the four month rotation of work explained above. It is not something we are completely closed off to in the future, but for now we are going to stick with this.

All types of media are encouraged to apply and The Frontier staff in conjunction with Triangle ArtWorks will select groups based on quality of work and feasibility of display.

Triangle ArtWorks is a new nonprofit organization building a central platform and community network to support the visual and performing arts
and creative community across the five county Triangle region in a new, more business-centric way. This business segment is largely comprised of sole proprietors, small businesses and nonprofit arts organizations working in a broad range of disciplines from design, to film, to theater. Our goal is to create a “center- point” for this community as an industry segment, with a mission to support, promote and advocate for this community, and to increase the strength of this community by giving it a platform to come together and work as a business community.
