DESCRIPTION:When it comes to companies and organizations, many talk a good game of diversity, especially around hiring, but truly lack the inclusion and equity part. COVID-19 has once again called out a sore eye to American society’s racial inequities class disparities, and employment needs. We must address the water cooler talk that many employers do not understand and impacts their hiring process. This discussion will offer insight and solutions on how to build a truly equitable and inclusive workplace. Register\nSpeaker:\nDr. Tierney Bates\nInterim Executive Director of University Career Services\nDr. Tierney Bates a Cleveland, Ohio native joins Student Affairs as Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Special Projects and Interim Executive Director of University Career Services. Dr. Bates has a distinguished higher education career, including previous service as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Virginia Union University and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at North Carolina Central University. He has also held positions at the University of Louisville, the University of Tennessee, and Bowling Green State University. Dr. Bates has a wide breadth of experience in multiple Student Affairs functions, including career services, advising, housing, multicultural and diversity initiatives, student engagement and leadership, student conduct, and orientation. In addition, Dr. Bates is a sought-after speaker and facilitator in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, fundraising, and career coaching. Dr. Bates holds a doctorate of education in educational leadership from Spalding University, in addition to an MBA from Bryan College and a master’s degree in higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron. He loves movies and sports and is a former lacrosse player.\n
