Protecting Innovation 2013: Recent Developments In Patent Law
Major changes are underway in the use of patents. This presentation will explore the recent changes to patent law contained in the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, including the “First-to-File” rule and new post-grant patent review procedures. The presentation will also discuss recent case law developments, including recent decisions regarding the calculation of damages for patent infringement claims.
Speaker: Kathryn Taylor
Kathryn Taylor is an experienced commercial litigator with the law firm of K&L Gates. Katie joined K&L Gates in August 2011 after practicing for ten years at Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago, where she was a partner in the litigation department. Katie focuses her practice on serving clients in the life sciences and technology sectors in cases involving products liability, consumer fraud, professional liability and commercial litigation. Her past and present representative clients have included Accenture, BP, Hewlett Packard and Teva Pharmaceuticals, among others.
Katie has a B.A. from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.
Speaker: David Perry
David Perry is currently Senior Patent Counsel at Red Hat. Prior to joining Red Hat in June 2012, David gained a decade of experience as a patent litigator at some of the top intellectual property litigation firms in the country, including Kenyon & Kenyon, Kirkland & Ellis and Kilpatrick Townsend. His representative clients from his time in private practice included Hynix, Samsung, Tessera, Apple, Agere and Infineon.
As Senior Patent Counsel at Red Hat, David is responsible for managing the company’s ongoing defense of patent litigation, including evaluating and addressing threatened patent assertions.
David has a B.A. from Whitman College and a J.D. from Fordham University.
