Description
Speaker: Chris Oldham, President & CEO of VaporPulse Technologies
Topic: New Use of a Proven Technology for Creating Novel Coatings and Innovative Products
In this talk, Chris Oldham President and CEO of VaporPulse Technologies will discuss our work at VaporPulse Technologies and use of a technology called atomic layer deposition (ALD) as a process platform for creating uniform coatings to enhance the surfaces of materials. ALD was originally invented for use in the electronics industry over 30 years ago but recent work by Prof. Greg Parsons and his research group at NC State University has discovered some novel and unique uses for technology including ways to impart chemical resistance and conductivity on polymer and textile materials. As part of this talk I will discuss how VaporPulse is commercializing the ALD technology platform for new and innovative products outside of the electronics industry and also discuss recent developments by other groups to use the technology to disrupt old industries.
About Chris Oldham:
Chris holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Ph.D.in Materials Science and Engineering both from NC State University. Before co-founding VaporPulse, Chris joined Prof. Greg Parsons research group as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NC State University. As a postdoc in the group Chris has been working on developing novel coatings from the atomic layer deposition. As a postdoc, Chris successfully completed the Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (TEC) program in the Poole College of Management at NC State University. From this program Chris co-founded VaporPulse Technologies and developed the original business plan for using the ALD platform to protect fabrics from color fade in outdoor environments. The business plan was recently funded by the Chancellors Innovation Fund at NC State University to support commercial development of the technology platform.
