Stay tuned for more information about the event and how your company can become involved.
Environment@rtp The bi-annual Electronics Recycling Day was held on September 30, 2009 at Nortel's Gateway facility parking lot in RTP. There were 676 total drop-offs and 43,166 pounds of electronics were collected (that's almost 22 tons!). Additionally, 6 thermometers and 25 thermostats were collected and recycled; and 86 cell phones were collected and donated to the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County, Inc. 65 PCs/laptops and 50 monitors were taken by the Kramden Institute for refurbishment. Save the date for the spring event: Wednesday, April 28, 2010.
A Sustainability lunch & learn was held on October 28, 2009 with presentations by Biogen, NIEHS, NetApp and UNC - CH. Environment@rtp plans to host quarterly meetings for RTP companies and local universities to present and share information about their sustainability efforts.
Environment@rtp will host a Solid Waste Management Vendor Fair at RTP Headquarters on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be solid waste, composting and recycling vendors on hand with displays to provide information about the services they provide. This will be a great opportunity for all RTP companies and their facilities staffs to learn more about the many opportunities to keep some of our waste out of landfills. For more information or to RSVP for the event, email Alison Fiori, fiori@rtp.org.
Security@rtp Security@rtp held its quarterly meeting on October 8, 2009 and topics discussed included Shelter in Place plans, essential employee designation and emergency response. Becoming involved with the committee is a great way to network with fellow safety and security coordinators at companies throughout RTP. SmartCommute@rtp SmartCommute@rtp held its quarterly committee meeting on November 3, 2009. The group is gearing up for this spring's SmartCommute Challenge campaign. Many employers also recently completed their participation in the fall employee commuting survey, results of which will help Triangle Transit with future transit planning and will help employers understand their employees' concerns about their daily commutes.
