Located five miles east of The Research Triangle Park, the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) provides efficient and cost-effective travel options for Park companies and the entire Triangle area. In 2008, more than 9.7 million passengers traveled through Raleigh-Durham International Airport, one of the highest passenger counts on record.
Highways
North Carolina has the second largest state maintained highway network in the United States. The East-West Interstate Highway 40 bisects Research Triangle Park. I-40 connects North Carolina with California.

Railways
Four thousand miles of track and twenty railroads crisscross North Carolina. Freight service in the Research Triangle Park area is provided by Norfolk-Southern Railway and CSX Transportation. Rail lines run on both the eastern and western borders of The Research Triangle Park between Raleigh and Durham.

North Carolina's Ports of Wilminton and Morehead City, plus inland terminals in Charlotte and in the Piedmont Triad at Greensboro, are "ready, willing and able" to serve as competitive alternatives to ports in neighboring states for competitive access to the global markets.
